Position will be under-filled at the Planning Specialist I, Grade 18 level.
This position will be responsible for tracking and analyzing planning strategies that promote Montgomery County's economic development. The incumbent will work to increase community development and efficient land use to meet the Montgomery County Department of General Services community goals. The successful applicant will serve as the technical specialist for planned development and transportation, community development, and environmental analyses. This incumbent will conduct research and technical studies and develop plans for land use and County partnerships. This position will be responsible for consulting and presenting information to public, private, and non profit organizations, public officials, and civic leaders to collect and disseminate information, promote cooperative efforts, and providing support and assistance to the DGS Director, County Executive and Council.

Experience: Some (1 year) experience in a planning specialization.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in urban planning, community development, geography and/or related planning field.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

1. Experience developing and implementing projects related to the Smart Growth Initiative, Master plan amendments, rezoning proposals, special exception requests, historic preservation and/or annexation proposals.
2. Experience planning and developing studies to assess community development needs to include conducting surveys to collect and evaluate data, proposing alternatives, and/or recommending decisions for delivery of assistance and services.
3. Experience conducting studies of amendments to the zoning ordinance or subdivision regulations, with emphasis on policy issues and implementation problems.
4. Experience writing and preparing narrative and statistical reports summarizing research information and providing planning options and recommendations.
