There are currently 3 vacancies. Positions will be underfilled at the Permitting and Code Enforcement Inspector I level, Grade 19. Salary: $42,883 - $70,773.
The primary purpose of this position is to conduct on-site fire and life safety inspections of existing residential and commercial buildings, including schools, businesses, places of assembly and other properties to ensure compliance with fire codes and standards. Prepares written technical inspection reports and violation notices, and enters information into a computerized data base. Completes and maintains detailed electronic and hard copy records of all inspections and supporting documents related to all aspects of fire and life safety. Researches fire code violations and provide direction and/or technical assistance for correction of identified violations. Investigates complaints, and answers questions regarding fire safety and hazardous conditions. Performs related duties as assigned.

At the Permitting and Code Enforcement Inspector I level:
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in a technical/professional field in the fire protection/inspection industry.
Education: Completion of high school or possession of a High School Certification of Completion recognized by the State of Maryland. A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field is preferred for all positions. For applicants possessing a degree in an appropriate area, the experience requirement may be reduced to one year instead of three.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license when required for job-related duties.
Certification for Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute Fire Inspector I or Equivalent. [Please indicate on your resume.]

1. National Board on Fire Services Professional Qualifications Fire Inspector I or Equivalent.
2. Experience using Microsoft Office software.
3. Experience conducting on site fire inspections.

Based on the results of Preferred Criteria evaluation, applicants will be rated and placed on the Eligible List as either "Qualified" or "Well Qualified." The highest rated applicants will be placed on the Eligible List and may be considered for interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are same grade or higher will be placed on Eligible List as a "Transfer" candidate and may be considered for interview.
