Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Engineering and Operations, Sign & Marking Shop, 1283 Seven Locks Road, Building E, Rockville, Maryland 20854

 

The employee will be assigned to DOTs Sign and Marking Shop, but will be part of a two-person team responsible for the DTEO stock system. The employee will be co-responsible for researching, ordering, receiving, stocking and issuing of parts, materials and supplies for traffic signal, ATMS, street light, signing and marking activities. Duties will include: maintaining contacts with vendors regarding orders and deliveries of stock and non-stock items purchased; assisting the shop supervisors in researching specifications and availability of materials and equipment; locating and expediting the acquisition of all special orders and out-of-stock items; tracking of invoices, contribute to monthly journal entries and year-end financial procedures and reconciliation; inputting, monitoring, evaluating and generating reports from an automated inventory control system; generating and maintaining warranty programs with outside vendors; preparing and overseeing the annual and periodic physical inventories; resolving inventory discrepancies; resolving questions/problems referred to them by employees; as well as, leading and training lower-level supply staff in storekeeping procedures, methods and recordkeeping activities. The employee will also perform various clerical and shop operational functions, such as coordinating time sheet preparation, answering phones, and operating the shop radio to maintain communication with field staff. Being part of a two-person team both Depot Supply Coordinators will report to a TMC Manager but will also accept guidance and instruction from the supervisors at the two shops. In addition, Depot Supply Coordinators will fill-in for each other. Assignments will require use of computer and other office machines including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access database. On occasion, overtime work will be required.

 

Work will regularly involve periods of keyboarding, standing, walking, bending, crouching, other personal movement and movement of 20 to 50 pound items as well as occasional movement of heavy items weighing 50 to 100 pounds, alone or with help by lifting, pushing, shoving, rolling, leveraging, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: One (1) year of experience in storekeeping procedures including researching, ordering, receiving, checking, stocking, inventorying, and issuing supply items, and one (1) year of experience as a clerical employee in an office environment utilizing communications equipment.

Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

 

LICENSE:

Possession of a valid standard driver's license and certificate for forklift and/or other vehicle, which may require a Commercial Drivers License, as required by the position of assignment.

Preferred Criteria

1.  Experience with automated warehousing methods, determining re-order points and stock levels, and record-keeping in maintaining an extensive perpetual inventory.

2.  Experience with and knowledge of procurement procedures, particularly Montgomery County procedures.

3.  Experience with the distribution of parts and supplies associated with traffic operations activities.

4.  Experience using parts manuals, catalogs and cross-reference materials.

5.  Experience in the utilization of computer applications to update and keep accurate records, as well as, prepare reports concerning parts usage, costs, and related matters.

All applicants will be reviewed by OHR to determine whether or not they meet minimum qualifications for the position.  All applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be reviewed and rated by subject matter experts based on the Preferred Criteria.  Based on the results of Preferred Criteria evaluation, applicants will be rated and placed on the Eligible List as either "Qualified" or "Well Qualified." The highest rated applicants will be placed on the Eligible List and may be considered for interview.  Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are same grade or higher will be placed on Eligible List as a "Transfer" candidate and may be considered for interview. Note: In the event there are 5 or less minimally qualified candidates, all will be placed on the Eligible List as Qualified and will be interviewed.  The filling of vacancies by transfer or promotion will be made from the highest ratings category pf the eligible list based upon seniority.
